This video goes into more practical applications of Frequency Modulation synthesis. The importance of simple ratios between the Carrier and Modulators is stressed. The techniques are shown on the Operator Synth in Ableton Live, but can be applied on any synth that includes FM.

Early in development MIDI triggered video player built in Max for Live. Notes C1 up trigger video clips from any specified folder. in this video it's receiving the midi out coming from an autonomous sequencer (improbeat) which is also controlling the audio.
just the very start. currently working on multiple layers, rotation, zoom and colour controls - all MIDI controllable! hit me up if you'd like to play with the source.
this is destined to be used in conjunction with my Guitar Hero to MIDI patch for instant axe controlled audio/visual fun.

This is the first of 3 videos covering frequency modulation and the Operator synth. This Was made in a previous version of Operator but the concepts and techniques are still very valid. These videos were made to go along with my Advanced Production in Ableton Live, but didn't make it into the course, so I thought everyone could benefit here on youtube and my blog( http://loudonstearns.berkleemusicblog... )

Everything you see in this video is stop motion.
This took about 30 hours to make all together. Its pretty weird I think.. The sound effects come either garageband, propellerhead reason, or I recorded them myself.

A dub steppy, glitch hop, big beat wobbler!
Received an e-mail from DJ Vespers:
Thanks for the comment and rating on my new track, Beatmaker. Cheers!
Here's some info on me and the track:
Beatmaker is a dub step inspired, glitchy big beat monster with a splash of epic symphonic melodies. Lots of edits and heavy wobble bass to keep things pulsating.

Tom Middleton has been a driving force in electronic music for the last 20 year. He is the man behind countless releases under guises such as E621, The Jedi Knight and many many more. We talked to this veteran about his background, how he learned the craft from Richard D James back in Cornwall, England, and about his use of Reason as his main writing and production tool.
In the interview, we also get a walkthrough of the track Hypnotizer that just came out on Urbantorque Recordings. We'll get to learn some of the Jedi Knight's secret moves and how he uses Reason to build his signature deep sound.

Elektron Machinedrum SPS-1 UW GND-SN machine triggering BOSS SYB-5 bass synthesizer pedal. The GND-SN machine routed to an individual out -> Boss SYB-5 -> INP-EA machine for filtering.
Just realized that the first few minutes had that stupid delay on.
All other sounds are machinedrum GND-SN sine machines!
At the time of recording I was first time trying out the pedal, only discovering the possibilities.
The video is to show what kind of sounds you can get triggering the SYB-5 with a GND-SN and was put into an electronic context.
Not a musical statement.
The video was shot with a Nokia N95, the sound quality is far from amazing.

The monophonic Minikorg 700 was the first synthesizer from Korg. It has 1 VCO, 1 "traveler" filter (12 dB, highpass/lowpass) 1 envelope and 1 LFO. It has a very special sound - some like it, others don't - I love it.
It was used by Vangelis in the seventies. Also it was Kitaro's favourite synthesizer.
I played the Minikorg with Lexicon MPX 500 reverb and Roland DEP-5 delay.
A short test of adding the new toy, the Korg WD-X , into the mix as well as testing the camera audio.
This is the start of the documentation of the next Extension Chords record. This time w will have video of it in action.

The Doncamatic shown here stands in the entrance area of the Japanese headquarters of the firm KORG and was restored beginning 2001. Modified in a similar way to my other 505 except this one was already 'perma bent' to a minor degree when i picked it up. The drum sounds have always been slightly odd and the toms and low conga sound strange when you turn the pitch up beyond it's standard setting. Building a distortion circuit into it proved to be a major headache due to it's bizarre flaws so i took a look at www.burnkit.com and found a cool square wave injection modification there. It may not have the nasty edge of my other tr505 built into it but it has a larger range of sounds. It still sounds cool through some distortion though so at 2.59 i processed the audio in soundforge through the ohm boys vst plugin ohmicide before compiling the video. Ohmicide is the best vsti distortion out there in my opinion and gives a good example of how cool this thing would sound through some decent hardware fx.
Thanks to the guys at www.burnkit2600.com for putting the time into their site and sharing so much good info on not only the tr505 but the 626, hr16 and lots of other stuff.

Ryangruss.com is taking loop requests this afternoon and the fun has already started! #1's a DubStep beat, requested by yours truly....
I’ve decided to try a little experiment today. I’m going to lock myself in my studio, with nothing but Logic 9 and my Twitter feed running, taking loop requests and producing/posting them live, every hour. It all starts at 2pm EST. Just tweet your request to @ryangruss with #looprequest in the message. Name any style, tempo, genre, artist etc. Anything goes. Polka to punk. Yanni to Yngwie. Let’s do this.
Received an e-mail this morning from Mr. Ned Rush, aka rude_NHS, about his latest endeavor - Rudeblog. Dubbed as "the rude_NHS official blog, home of rude_NHS, MrNedRush, and anything else i can think to give a silly name too. you can read stuff about music, films, games, ideas, a bit of culture, cool boys stuff, sad smelly girls stuff, music, yeah mostly music stuff. and some videos. yeah."
As some of you may recall the second edition of 10 Questions featured rude_NHS (with accompanying ep review), and I've long been a fan of his alter ego's youtube videos. So check it out, it's well worth the trip ;->.

Roland TB-303 Painting on Ebay.
Stunning hand painted canvas from Spark Paint. Size 40" x 20". John Davis original work. Framed in the canvas stretched around a wooden frame which is about 1 inch deep at the sides and stapled on the reverse. Ready to hang once you take it out of the box.
Current price $123.45
This video was made to demonstrate the functionality of my Roland TB-303 Baseline Synthesizer that I am selling on Ebay. This TB-303 is an exceptional example in superb condition. It hasn't been modified or messed with in any way. Everything works 100%. NO scratchy pots, NO flaky, double triggering buttons, NO battery acid leaks (has the elusive battery cover) and the pots even still have the "new stiff" feeling to them.
If you have always wanted a really nice example of a TB-303, this is it!
This video was made with the TB-303 going straight in to the computer with no EQ. The drum and sample sounds are coming from a Casio RZ-1 Drum machine.
At 2:45 I try out some distortion for the techno people. At 5:20 I add Some delay to the TB-303.
BugBrand Modular feeding a simple tone into The Squarewave Parade Teaspoon CAS with Frostwave Sequencer running CV/Gate to manipulate it with pitch changes and retriggers and stutters. I'm a huge fan of conspiracy theories, there I've said it. Now I don't necessarily believe all the crazy stuff I read, but still I enjoy finding out about different ideas... whether it be about dolphin mind control or the so-called reptilian agenda. So when I ran across this article about Jay-Z's Occult Connections it sparked my interest. The article is centered around Jay-Z's latest video, "Run This Town":
Read article HERE.
What do you think? Reaching? Coincidences? Jay-Z capitalizing on conspiracy theories to spark interest on his new album?

Tickets are still available for “Music For 16 Futurist Noise Intoners,” an evening-length concert of original scores and newly commissioned compositions for the intonarumori, or “noise-intoners” this Thursday, 8pm at Town Hall.
Luciano Chessa has directed a reconstruction project to produce accurate replicas of the legendary instruments (8 noise families of 1-3 instruments each, in various registers) that Russolo built in Milan in the summer of 1913. As the first instruments capable of creating and manipulating noises through entirely mechanical processes, the intonarumori can be considered to be the original analog synthesizer, and the ancestors to the latest electronic synthesizers used today!

http://www.MusicSoftwareTraining.com/... With Iphone AP Snatch Remote, I have created a custom controller for Ableton Live. It can actually be used for any program you like. In my opinion it's about the best $2 I've ever spent and it replaces many of the functions you would normally need a customized midi controller to do.
CAUTION many low and high pitched sounds!
It's not a track per se, just a musical experiment which I think sounds interesting (pretty acid-like, eh?). Done on ReDrum using default sounds from Reason (Glitch Kit 7) and some routing. Because of that I won't upload an mp3 BUT I'm giving you the .rns file instead =) download it here:

This is a demo for a Reaktor ens. I created for using a Korg Kaoss Pad KP3 to trigger midi notes. The X axis of the KP3 controls the note value and the Y axis controls the rate at which are notes are triggered. In this demonstration, Reaktor is sending the note data as midi to a plug-in called Silent Way, which controls my modular synth via a MOTU audio interface. Modules by Make Noise, The Harvestman, f(H) and Doepfer. Software based glitchery provided by Uhe's MFM2.
